About

What this is

opelenartys.com is an independent editorial index of unusual hotels. It covers four kinds of property — art hotels, capsule hotels, casino hotels and ice hotels — and arranges them as four movements, with each hotel written up as a numbered piece within its movement. There are eleven entries in total. Everything written about them is on the page; nothing is hidden behind a click or a sign-up.

Why movements

The four categories are not a ranking and they are not a route. They are groupings, and the musical framing is a way of admitting that: a movement is a section with its own character that belongs to a larger whole without competing with the rest of it. The thin five-line rules that separate entries are decorative, not notation. They are there to mark a boundary quietly and nothing more.

How entries are written

Each entry is prose. We describe the building, the setting, the way a stay is likely to feel, and the trade a guest is being asked to make — a windowless room, a night below freezing, a floor plan that assumes you will be out all evening. We avoid specification tables because they flatten the differences that matter, and we vary the length and rhythm of entries because the hotels are not interchangeable.

We stay with facts that are general and stable: what a building was before, where it stands, how it is organised, what is on site. We do not publish figures that would need sourcing and would age badly — prices, room counts stated to the unit, distances to the metre, seasonal opening dates.

What we do not do

Geography

The index is not written from or for any one country. Properties are chosen because they are interesting examples of their category, and they happen to sit across several continents. Where a movement clusters in one place, that reflects where those hotels are, not a national focus.

Corrections

Hotels change: buildings are renovated, facilities close, an ice structure is built to a different plan. If something here has gone out of date or was wrong to begin with, write to us through the contact page and we will amend or remove it.
